DISH Reaches Long Term Agreement with DISNEY / ESPN / ABC

  • Server Issues.

We are very aware that there have been system issues the past few days. In troubleshooting the system, it has been determined that the issue is at our provider and is hardware related. As of 12:05 PM ET our provider has moved us to a new server.

Things seem to be running better on this new server. However in trying to diagnose the issue (before finding out it was a hardware issue) we made some system changes which we need to undo. So if you find any issues or errors please let us know in the Operations Center Forum.

Thank you for your patience! Sorry for the issue!

Nope not in the least. :)

I am however wondering if it could throw a monkey wrench into things.

I may be down at ESPN tomorrow. (Slight chance).

Thanks scott for all the work you do! It's appreciated as we go into the last week of September

Fine let Dish get rid of ESPN, the old Primestar dishes are getting lonely in the junkyards.

I've seen a ton of them and cband dishes out here in Vegas the last 2 weeks

BOO!!!!! I was just joking I'm sure lots of PS dishes ended up in the dump. If I recall the reason primestar shut down was that they were hoping the FCC would give them a DBS license and they did not.

Disney also owns 50% of A&E networks. If they are also included in the negotiations, that would be a ton of channels that could go dark.

I'd like to know just how many channels carried by Dish are included in the carriage agreement.I know all ESPN,and all Disney named channels, and 8 ABC owned ota channels.

man it's a good thing I am doing some work to the servers so, IF and just IF these two companies go to war, we can handle the traffic. :D

A&E is about all I'd miss. And not a whole lot.

This is a quote from that article.

Aside from the legal fight, the talks are complicated. Disney is reportedly looking to raise the cost for ESPN to as much as $8 from the approximately $5.50 per subscriber per month under the existing contract. The discussions encompass more than 70 channels, platforms and digital services (including VOD and versions of TV Everywhere).

Now if that does include A&E and History channels, that could make a huge problem into an exponential problem.Duck Dynasty, and several of the History shows are top rated.

Well now, loss of the History Channel would be quite disturbing to me.

But HEY DISH: MAKE LEMONADE out of this, if it happens. Just add The Military History Channel & I'm good. Close enough.

I'm not sure ESPN is in the same contract as ABC Family, Disney, etc.. ESPN has been in HD all along and others have not since the HD versions were pulled which suggests two separate contracts. The contracts could be expiring at the same time for all I know and I know nothing.

This is a quote from the article:

A Disney/ABC spokesperson said that while the talks concern all of its channels — including the eight local ABC stations nationwide, the Disney suite of children' s channels, cable channels including ABC Family, and the ESPN suite of channels — a deal could include some or all of them.

That means Dish could continue to carry ABC local channels — which reportedly currently cost less than 50 cents per subscriber per month — as well as Disney and other cable channels, while dropping ESPN.

Yeah, but does the Military History Channel have Ancient Aliens? How will we ever live without that?
