I have been very pleased so far with the Hopper/Joey setup, but the one annoyance that I can't get past is having collapsible RSN's in the guide. The collapsible menu should include ONLY the ALT sports channels and I should always be able to see my RSN's in the guide without needing to expand them. Is there any word on whether Dish may address this in an upcoming release?

I second that, it may only be a small detail but it is an annoyance to have to open the collapsed folder to see if my Cavs or Indians are on.

Yeah, it's a real pain..... I enter channel 412 and then I have to push select to see all the RSNs. It's one button people...;)

I like it. Gets rid of all the clutter.

That "clutter" is essentially 2 channels (1 SD and 1 HD). Like I said, collapsing the ALT's would be fine, but collapsing primary RSN's just doesn't make sense. It would be kind of like collapsing HBO so that seeing what movies are playing always required an extra button push before they display in the guide. Not a showstopper by any means, but certainly an unnecessary annoyance.

I wouldn't mind it if you could tune directly to an RSN like you can with the music channels, like 9905 gets 50's on 5. As it is you have to hit 412 then find you're desired RSN. Why not set it up so that 4409, for example, gets CSN Bay Area directly?

now that's an idea worth passing along. consider it passed.

That is the way it works, you type 412xx where xx = the number of your RSN.

yeah that's what I do, 41225 is CSN-NE.
Yeah. That's so much easier than just pressing the original 3-digit number.

Why are people defending these changes that make stuff more complicated and/or more difficult? If it doesn't make things easier, leave it the fork alone.

Never said it was easier, was just pointing out that you could type the number and go directly to your desired RSN.
I personally think they should get rid of ALL the new nested channels and put the music channels back in the 900's and the Sirius channels back in the 6000's where they belong.

Hear hear!!!

But, there is an argument to be made for the music channels, as there really are a lot of them. Perhaps this could be a user-defined option in the System/Guide menu?

I would argue that PPV channels should also be nested, as well. But, they don't do that because, like the crap that is on display in the checkout line at the supermarket, they want you to see what is available, hoping you will make an impulse purchase. This is also my theory why the Hopper reverts back to My Channels guide every night, instead of staying on whatever Favorites list the user was using, as most users do not include PPV in their Favorites.

You want annoying? How about having a foreign language "package" that only includes ONE CHANNEL being nested?

So, now, there are TWO channels in the guide, where there used to only be one. Plus, it's a different channel number than before! That has to be the stupidest decision I've seen from Dish in a while. And, they have made, and continue to make, some stupid ones.

Ya know, I see this a lot here. Many are saying that the Hopper, and the 722 before it, reverts back to My Channels every night. I have a few Favorites lists and, when I set one of them, they stay there, every day even after nightly reboot. It's been that way for me for years, both on my 722 and my Hopper. I don't know the answer to why this is the case. There are two things that I can think of that might make a difference. I have renamed my Favorites lists to something other than Favorites 1 & 2 and I do not shut my Hopper off, ever, just like my 722. Even when I do a power down reboot my Favorites list comes back by default.

It started doing it on my 722k in the later months leading up to my Hopper upgrade. And, it's definitely doing it on my Hopper. (But, not my Joey.)

My Harmony remotes are programmed to shut the Hopper and Joey off when shutting down. But, it's only standby, not truly off, as you know. I prefer it this way.
But, it doesn't seem to happen after every shutdown. It appears to be more of an overnight thing. And, it definitely happens after a reboot.

Just for jeepers, Gary, after you shut down for the night, turn the Hopper back on and then, in the next day, turn it off again and then power up with your Harmony. I use Harmony as well but I am programmed to leave the Hopper alone, power wise.

I'll admit it is a bit of an annoyance but I really don't think it's that big of a deal. Even my wife figured out all she has to do is hit 412xx to get to her channel. I'm sure there are tons of people who really love the fact that they don't have to surf through the hundred sports channels they don't care about. Maybe there are more people who like the feature out there than people that hate it.

i can guarantee it. the majority of folks that actually watch local/regional sports, moved to the other guys a long time ago. the fact that we have them still amazes me.
