I am getting dish for the first time next week. Have a few questions about the H3 if there is anyone out there that can help. First does the 4k joey perform better on cat5 ethernet vs there rg6. Can the Hopper3 record directly to the EHD. Is the hopper capable of having 9 to 12t in a hardware raid spanning 4 to 5 disk to the usb port. Last one is it possible (i know its not supported) remove the sata cable form the hd and put a esata adaptor on and hook up the external raid box containing 9 to 12t. I am concerned about the performance of one HD and i don't think 2t is enough for my family.

I can say that Joeys on cat5 is not supported by Dish, but that people have done it at least with other Joeys. They are reporting that the 4k Joey is nice and fast on RG6. I recommend you ask your questions on the Hopper forum...

The part about EHD can be answered there. There are already some comments on that in the forum like on the Hopper 3 Upgrade (not Waiting List) thread.

Quick answer for that one...No, it can't. All programs record to the internal drive, then you have the option to transfer them to the EHD. Once transferred, you can watch recordings directly from the EHD, though.

Even if you could hook your 12tb array up as the internal drive, I am pretty sure it would still only use 2tb, but not positive.

What kind of system to get

Hopper 3 - 1080p through OPPO (Darbee) or 4K direct to TV?
