Non dvrs have no hard drive.

The vod movies are downloaded to a DVR hard drive. This saves satellite bandwidth as it is downloaded to the receivers late at night and doesn't require a channel to make it happen. Model 612 receivers are next in line to get software upgrades followed by the 622s but no date announced yet.

IOW, VOD is not downloaded in real time and requires storage to play. Not like most cable VOD.
