Can DISH Network One-Up DIRECTV? - Chris Lanier's Blog

Channel 510 is a Dish PPV channel

Slim chance anything like this would be announced at CES, but with Windows 7 shipping around late summer early fall, and Microsoft looking for a satellite provider to partner up with after Direct TV pulled out, this would be a great solution to get HD into Mediacenter, and not have a bunch of TV cards or adapters to get it done.

Hopefully it wouldn't be an OEM deal like the cablecard stuff.

Scott mentioned on last week's podcast that Dish had also been working on a Media Center product. This is not too farfetched, given Dish's announcement last year that they would be supporting it. As to when it will be available, or how locked down it will be, that is anyone's guess.

Since I am someone, and by extension could be anyone, my guess is that if you want to take content off of your Media Center and take it portable, the only way you will be able to do it is with a Zune. ;)

Microsoft for a long time has declared that the TV set it the next great Platform for them to conquer. That is why they have made so many efforts to get into the Family room over the past few years. Its why they created the Xbox, its why the put so much effort into Window Media Center.

The one thing that they need to do is count the competiton. That competition is the STB boxes from providers, especially the Cable companies or satellite companies. If they can get you away from those STBs and onto theirs, then they can enjoy all that great ad revenue. Especially when they control your search engine from the STB.

So they need to partner up with the satellite companies and make those Cable Card 2.0 boxes, so they can eat up more pie.

Can you imagine Dish software running on Vista?

Are you sure you want to change channels?

This program has stopped responding, please repay last months bill.

If you have a channel on and it's delayed at all and you attempt to move to another channel the DVR pops up a notice just like asking are you sure.

If a channel stops working and you call DIsh to fix it, 9 times out of 10 when you check your bill next month, you have new things on there you didn't ask for and your bill is hosed for 3 months while you try to get it straightened out.

can't wait for tuner to be out. Media Center, Xbox & dish all in one small white box... boy it is dream come true.

MS has already integrated Cable & FIOS with CableCARD & MCard to MCE.

what?????

im not going to let myself get too excited about anything until we see some official specs and hard release date.... we were all disappointed by the directv tuner.

media center really needs something like this though.... the cablecard tuners are a complete joke.

im a current directv sub (mainly for the media center tuners that were supposed to be coming) so if these tuners come to fruition i would have no problem switching to dish.

christmas eve surprise?
