DISH Hopper coming at CES ?

Just trolling over at DBSTalk and looks like they're heads are about to explode trying to figure out how a single tuner can record 4 channels at once. Well, all I've got to say is that I've had a few adult beverages, bumble bees can fly, and .. well it's magic!

All it is, is recording the whole TP. That's it. Dish has probably been aligning the big 4 on one TP for some time, with this in mind, with most everyone in Dish clueless as to the reason why. Gosh, I've got a big grin on my face!

BTW, bumblebees and helicopters don't fly. They beat the air into submission! :D

Yeah, I'm on my second double, too!

Hmmm, interesting thought. This might explain why after all the Pittsburgh locals were moved from 77 to 61.5, the "big 4" were duplicated on 77 again: for TP alignment purposes.

other then recording all network shows what is the main difference between the hopper and the XIP line?

Errr- almost everything. Distribution over coax. HD to multiple TVs. Faster operation. Centralized whole house DVR. More tuners. etc etc etc.

[TD="class: alt1, bgcolor: #F5F5F5"]Here's a list of what I posted on Audioholics in response to a comparison to the HR34. Some of these features are available on the 722, but most are not ...

Where to start, the Hopper has...
* A 2TB HD (The HR34 only has a 1TB HD)
* EHD support
* PrimeTime Anytime - very cool feature that records all primetime programming from ABC, NBC, CBS & FOX using only ONE tuner. Programming is cached for 8 days and can be saved as needed. Primetime Anytime recordings do not impact user recording space.
* With Primetime Anytime enabled you can record up to 6 HD shows simultaneously during "primetime."
* Full DVR functionality which means the ability to manipulate live programming from any location, not just the main location.
* The ability to pause live TV in one room and pick it up in another. Press pause in the living room and press play in the bedroom. Nice when the women demand that you come to dinner!
* Supports optional Sling adapter which has no associated monthly service fee and will be $29.99 as of 2/1/2012 (no rebate).
* Blockbuster @Home support which now includes over 10,000 streaming titles to any connected television. This is in addition to DISH Cinema and traditional PPV and VOD services.
* The ability to "stack" Hoppers giving users 6 tuners as opposed to 3. When stacked, all locations automatically "see" one system, one DVR library, one "set timer" process, and the ability to select any tuner from any location seamlessly.
* USB OTA tuner support (confirmed sans an implementation process)
* Zoned music with over 70 channels of SiriusXM. DISH is moving all SiriusXM stations to channel 99 using an expandable/collapsible guide feature. All channels will display album art etc.
* Apps and games including social media apps like Facebook, etc.
* 750 Mhz Broadcom processor which is lightning fast. More than twice the processing power of the HR34.
* The Hopper utilizes "Joeys" at the remote location. A Joey is slightly larger than your hand and can be easily slipped behind a wall mounted TV. A single Hopper supports 3 Joeys. So a single Hopper can support up to 4 HDTVs just like the HR34.
* Since the Hopper utilizes the MoCA standard all Joeys can be installed using standard cable splitters and RG6 or RG59 cable meaning you can "light-up" every outlet in your home and move your TV & Joeys at will.
* Bluetooth support for things like wireless headphones (NICE!).
* Zigbee remote technology. Meaning the Hopper and Joeys can be stored out-of-sight and out-of-mind. No more IR remotes!

I've also heard that the Hopper will have apps for HBO GO and Max GO, but that's not confirmed.

OH, what a nice post! Succinct, and answers what I've seen others ask. Much more thorough than my "quickie" response above.

I never watch anything live but I do tend to get most shows late late at night and then delete them to free up space

With this I won't have to bother with so many things

blackloz asked the difference between the XIP and the hopper.... which i believe is nothing ... XIP was the early name during development until Dish decided to brand it as the Hopper/Joey.

Still wondering for areas that have more than the Big 4 on single tp will it record all of the tp. If the later then it's going to be recording more than 6 things at a time. If not then it will be somehow locked to sync and only record the big 4.

If i understand correctly, all the hoppers and joeys have ethernet ports on the back of them. So anyone know what those ports do in relation to the moca bridge device? Are they for completely separate functions?

new to this whole moca thing....
