DISH NETWORK GIVES VOOM SUBSCRIBERS HIGH-DEFINITION TV SOLUTION
WHAT: EchoStar Communications Corporation and its DISH Network satellite TV service now offer current VOOM subscribers a high-definition TV solution that includes free next-day installation and six months free of HD programming.

With this program, VOOM customers will get six free months of HD programming and high-definition receivers in up to two rooms at no charge. For a limited time, those who sign up can also receive more than 180 standard definition channels for only $31.99 a month, for the first three months with a one-year agreement.

WHY: VOOM customers have received notification that they will lose their service after April 30.

My response to this is "whoopie" they are giving VOOM customers what they have been giving away now for quite awhile and that is 6 months free HD package.

While DirecTV on the other hand is giving VOOM customers a $200 rebate.

I am also guessing that this press release was the first one ever by Mark Cicero, judging by the fact it looked more like a invite to a kids birthday party (Who, What Why) then an actual press release.
 
There is one new point here. It is only one year commitment instead of two which was required for former E* customers. So it is something good for me at least. I will update my account. :)
 
Dish is disputing this release. They are saying that HD receivers in up to 2 rooms at NO CHARGE is actually the 811 at $5.00 per month per receiver.

There is a big difference between "NO CHARGE" and $10 a month forever.

I got the same deal on the hd pack, 3 mos. of 180 channels for 120 price, etc....but I managed to talk them into NO contract....yep I'm month to month......so if something comes up that's close to Voom I'm gone.

AFAIK, when doing a lease you don't get charged an extra receiver fee. For me, I have a 301 and 811 and I pay a 5 dollar a month fee on the leased 811, but no extra receiver fee. The lease on the 301 is built into the plan. I assume with 2 811's I'd get charged the same per month...

I only post the press releases as I receive them. Its not up to me to make sure all the facts and figured in the releases are correct. :)

As someone in the PR biz, I'd say it looks more like a "Media Alert." But I'm still not sure if that is the proper format and tone (you're right, Scott, like a kid's B-Day party invite) for this type of information.
 
I called today and nobody at Dish knew anything about it. I spent 30 minutes on the phone and had to talk to an "account specialist" to get the same terms as the "memo".
