I'm currently cleaning out my basement and I have two old dish boxes, as mentioned in the topic title. Are these worth anything, maybe to sell on eBay or craigslist, or should they just go to the curb on trash day?

If you where a dealer you could do an out of warranty exchange on the 510 for $75 + $15 ship and get a 625.

Sorry bud, these two of my favorite receivers (DP301 and DISHPlayer DVR510) are obsoleted by E*, but if I had these receivers, I'll scrap the parts of the receivers, but I will choose to keep the front control panels.
I'm not a dealer, so I'll probably just recycle both. Why should I keep the card?
Does the 510 have anything recorded on it? If so, someone might buy it if they want to watch the recordings. The 301 is definitely (recycle) trash.

He said a retailer could RMA it, Dish used to (might still) have amnesty programs where retailers could send back receivers that were outdated or had a balance in exchange for a sellable refurb.
The whole issue is the out of warranty exchange fee which is $75. It used to be $50.
The problem is that 211’s and Wally’s for example are sold to dealers for $50.
A new receiver includes a new remote which is $14, bringing the dealer cost for the actual box to $36.
If you RMA it, your paying $15 for shipping, which leaves a net difference of $21.
Considering RMA equipment won’t pay a spiff when activated, your better off junking all stand alone non DVR receivers.
DVR equipment is a little better. Dealer cost is $150, and at $90 to out of warranty exchange it, there is some profit.
Nothing like back in the day paying $50 for an out of warranty exchange to get back a DVR Worth $319.
As far as amnesty’s with delinquent equipment I think they are still doing that.

A took 100 receivers from a large MDU I converted to Directv, got the several thousand dollar balance cleared from the equipment and sold it all on eBay. Kind of screwed Dish twice on that deal
I don't know where these prices came from. As a residential customer, Dish sold me a Wally and a ViP612 for only $50 each earlier this year. I double-checked to make sure both are listed as purchased, not leased.
Because they are Dish. They can do whatever they want to keep you happy
