DISH, DirecTV to merge?

Yea, we'll see. I'll believe all the pie in the sky claims when I see them. I've heard the same things before from Viasat and Hughesnet. :)

I also suspect that a decent number of Americans will decide that streaming basically sucks compared to their DVR's as the streaming prices go up and up among other things.

And yet all the actual hard data so far completely contradicts what you suspect...

Amazon Prime coming to the Hopper.
HBO can be streamed through Amazon Prime for $15.00/month.
HBO on Dish was $15.00/month
So, HBO back on the Hopper

You get it?

This is the first I've heard of the Prime Video app coming to the Hopper. When is this supposed to happen? Has it been officially announced or is this a rumor/leak?

We shall see...

Yep. Next phase is that the line between traditional cable and streaming gets increasingly blurry as AT&T/WarnerMedia, Comcast/NBCUniversal, and Discovery join Disney and ViacomCBS in offering direct-to-consumer streaming services that repackage the content from their linear channels into new on-demand services, but also add additional exclusive content that's not available elsewhere. All the major powers understand that the game is shifting to streaming, so they're positioning themselves in that direction. In other words, they're cannibalizing their cable channels to build their long-term future: direct-to-consumer streaming services like HBO Max, Peacock, Hulu, Disney+, CBS All Access and Showtime.

That would be so perfect!! Depending on how they handle it. We have to pay for each logged in user individually, even if it's on the same device and you change the person that is logged in you may lose access to HBO. If only Samsung didn't pull the HBONOW app, left the HBOGO app though, from Grandmas TV. It was there when I plugged the trigger and gone when I went to set it up. No response from anyone. Love the fact that you can get another networks individually in Prime. But it disguises how the costs mounts.

It was from a data uplink spotted on James Long's uplink activity site:

Very interesting. Adding the Prime Video app to the Hopper would be a nice feature, especially for DISH customers looking for a way to access HBO without switching inputs to a different streaming device. But at the same time, Amazon also sells subscriptions through that app for Showtime, Starz and Epix, all of which DISH sells too. Seems like a somewhat risky move on DISH's part because adding that app will likely reduce their own number of subscribers to those three premium services. Amazon sells Showtime for $11/mo, Starz for $9/mo and Epix for $6/mo. Looks like DISH is currently selling Showtime at a "special price" of $10/mo, Starz at $10/mo, and Epix at $7/mo.

The Amazon app may not support the Amazon channels, similar to the way it works on a Tivo.

Yeah, it's possible that the app could be gimped in that way. Pretty sure that will also be the case with the Hulu app that will soon show up on Comcast's X1 TV boxes. (But are you sure that the Prime Video app for TiVo doesn't support Amazon Channels? I thought it did...)

It kind of does. You can’t go to the channel from the app on a Tivo. But if you go into the app on another device that does support the channels and mark shows as in your watchlist, then you can view them on the TiVo’s Amazon app.

Frankly, my TV does a better job with apps than my HWS. I’d image that is the case for many, whether they realize it or not. So such an addition is of little value to me. WAY below bringing back 4x.

So, if this hasn't been brought up already, do you think that DISH (old logo) is going to get the Sat TV merger AND 5G Cell Service Merger both? I think it's too much together too soon and could kill everything....
