I would be on DirecTV if it wasnt for the big willow tree in my back yard. I have Dish and like it just find but wish we had MLB TV and Sunday Ticket.

That kind of looks like a Directv fanboy OP.

Why is EPIX 1 / 2 / Shorts listed as one group?

Why is Fox Soccer Channel HD not in the list which is available on Dish, not Directv.

Directv also doesn't have TCM HD, G4 HD, Centric HD, a bunch of HBO HDs, History International HD, DIY HD, E! HD. So what is that? 13 channels, with a bunch of them being broad interest channels, not like Fuse.

I have nothing against Directv, but I'm not much of a fan of fanboys.

Just because one makes a list and forgets some stuff, does not make them a fanboy.

Instead of name calling, simply add to the list.

DIRECTV is now rapidly adding HD channels. It will not be long before they carry everything Dish carries and more. Dish was making good progress too, but now they are getting into so many programming disputes, DIRECTV will be able to pass them because Dish will be stuck with blocks of channels they cannot get access to.

This looks like a war zone type post to me. Of course the Op is new here. Welcome by the way

D* is not rapidly adding anything but channels you have to pay extra to get like HBO and on demand stuff. When they start adding actual national TV channels, then maybe you can make that claim.

Edit: so I don't sound like a "fanboy", I have D*.

It's funny that its assumed I have and am a fan of them DirecTV, actually I have Dish Network with the Everything Pack and the Multisport. I was simply stating differences between the two, and yes I didn't mention all the HD differences just some of the common ones.

For a Direct person, you sure don't know very much.

They have added more national HD, not just premiums, and there will be a lot more to come. So far it has been

National Adds:

Travel HD
WGN HD
MSNBC HD
Hallmark Movie Channel HD (HD Extra Pack subscribers only)
ESPNU HD
Univision HD
TFT HD
Hallmark HD
Lifetime HD
A few 3D HD channels

Premium Adds:

HBO2 HD East
HBO Zone HD
Showtime Beyond HD
Showtime Next HD
Showtime Women HD
TMC Xtra HD East
Starz Cinema HD
Starz in Black HD
Encore HD EAST

DIRECTV added 16 regular channels and 3 full time RSNs over the last 6 weeks.

277 Travel HD
307 WGN HD
356 MSNBC HD
560 Hallmark Movie Channel HD (HD Extra Pack subscribers only)
614 ESPNU HD
312 Hallmark HD
252 Lifetime HD
502 HBO2 HD East
509 HBO Zone HD
550 Showtime Beyond HD
551 Showtime Next HD
552 Showtime Women HD
556 TMC Xtra HD East
531 Starz Cinema HD
530 Starz in Black HD
535 Encore HD EAST

These RSNs are now full-time HD

696 CSN Bay Area
698 CSN California
654 FSN Florida

If you look at the channel chart Dish has 12 regular/news channels more than DIRECTV. 4 of which are now unavailable. So, DIRECTV has almost caught up in the regular channels. They are 3 behind in movies, and of course way way way ahead in RSNs with Dish not having any full time RSN in HD.

If DIRECTV continues their pace (I think they promised 30 channels, so perhaps 11 more to go) they will pass Dish in "regular" channels.

But will DIRECTV still lead in hd pay per view channels? That is the real test of how many hd channels between the two sat companies.:D:D:D

You just happened to heavily bias the list in favor Directv, when in fact both services have options that the other doesn't have. Your OP read like a Directv mailer.

These threads get old. People complaing about not getting more channels. Then they get new channels. Then the price goes up due to adding more programming. Then people complain about price increases.

I love the people that complain that there are too many channels with nothing to watch. These are the same people who would complain if they were given $100 because they wanted more.

That's life in discussion forums. :)

The original post was clearly slanted. I always tell people who are considering satellite to look at the channels offered for each provider, the DVRs and what they need, then make a decision. Someone who is a HUGE sports fan would generally pick Direct...short of that I think it depends on how you watch TV and what you are willing to pay for and how you feel about the DVR boxes.

Your post looks like something that DirectTV would use for a commercial. Both D* and E* have channels that the other does not. Neither provider is perfect for all people. Each person has to decide on which channels they prefer to watch.

Whats Dish going to charge me for a 722?

6.3 IR/UHF Pro with ViP 922
