Dish CD.

I know that. Directv used to have audio channels then when XM came to light they were replaced by Xm. What I am asking is why are there both>?

The AT120 includes the Dish CD channels 950-981. The AT200 has Dish CD plus Sirius xm, Hopper Ch. 99/6002-6090. The AT250 has the Dish CD, SiriusXM plus Dish Music channels, 923-946. So if I had to guess why, it's because they want to provide music channels in all the core packages.

I think the CD audio channels were provided by Muzak. Is it true that Dish bought Muzak?

Anyhow, when many (all?) of the music channels on Dish were transmitted in the clear, I captured them using my handy dandy DVB-S tuner card. Pretty decent quality 48KHz stereo mpeg2 encoding. The "Aud" channels back then were terrible, mono channels with inadequate sampling rate.

Those are all gone (scrambled) except for the Hawaiian music channel, and I have to use my Dish receiver to decrypt them. Now I'm using a 25ft TOSLINK cable from receiver to stereo, but I no longer have any way to capture that stream.

those were good times...when a FTA receiver got all the audio channels on Dish (sans Sirius) and the radio stations on Bell ExpressVu
sadly they are all scrambled now

A post like this asks for it.
That thread was in the Dish forum, and then quickly moved to the War Zone. So, (1) what were you doing in the Dish forum in the first place if not to troll, and (2) why aren't you keeping this in the war zone? Instead you are following the OP of the quoted thread around like a lost puppy dog, and the rest of us have to avoid stepping in your droppings.

that was the assumption a long time ago..but charlie bought muzac when they were in bankruptcy or something like that

I wish I had that kind of money just to go.around buying up bankrupt companies left and right.

I would think that Dish Network has pretty much no cost in providing muzac to it's customers if they own the company. If they offer this service to businesses then all they need to do is put up an 18 inch dish with a basic receiver to pick the stations up. This would also allow people that have the service or knows someone that has the service to preview the stations to see if it is something that they want for their business.
