I got a call from a strange 800-number that I did not answer. The message left was Dish Network calling me because of reported low signal strength on my hopper? Has anyone else ever had this call? I would think it was some sort of a scam but they left the correct one 800 dish number to call back.

It was a legitimate call. I remember getting one the last time I had DISH.

Yes, they will call you from time to time if things aren't right.
Like others said it is legit.

I got one once. Dish asked if they could come out to check my system at no charge to me. Made an appointment found a bad LNB and he replaced a few connectors. I asked how dish could tell I had a problem. The tech let me see a screen with records how many times the signal dropped out. I really never noticed a problem. But I was glad to get it fixed. :)

I guess I'll never get one of those notices. There's no way they could possibly know if my signal drops.

Several years ago, Dish called me with the same problem. They came out at no charge and replaced my two Dishes with a single 3 LNB one. Also the Dish was not grounded properly , so they moved the Dish fron the front of my house around to the back and grounded it to my electric meter ground. NO cost ,no new contract. Zip.

Yes, I got a call a few years ago because my dish was off the roof for a couple days while the roof was being replaced.

At least it shows they are paying attention.

Some time ago, we had a poster here that insisted the dish transmitted data back to Dish. I don't recall him ever being convinced that could not possibly be the case.

Was me... It's internet based though. I know the system and the team he is talking about. We used it as agents as well while troubleshooting, we just don't mention it to customers.

I should add a ---- to that. If it can through the dish itself, I am still not so sure. However, if it is connected to Internet or phone, or has been replaced recently, then that's how.

Chad, I will guarantee you that there is no communication from your receiver or anything in your system to DISH through the satellite dish. It is strictly receive only.

Telephone and internet only.

That has been my belief this entire time!!! That is how I have described it as well... The discussion we are talking about happened maybe a year ago, and someone argued me that was not true.

I got a call about signal and reliability of my system a few years ago. I explained that the situation (we were renovating the house) required shutting down a number or our DVR's then setting them up again and having to do a lot of reboots as we were dealing with each room and trying to find a place to watch a little bit of TV. I really appreciated that Dish was aware that my system was not operating as it should. The CSR was very nice and wanted to make sure I did not need a tech to check anything. I thanked her very much and said it was not necessary, but appreciated the monitoring.

FWIW, I do like that Dish does this kind of monitoring. It can help prevent negative customer experience, especially from those new to Dish or those who have not a clue how any of the Dish systems work. Good work, Dish.
