I think as long as it dials in and connects you'll be alright (when I first got mine I had 2 different phone lines, then I changed it all to VoIP and they worked fine with vonage)
if you don't want to have it hooked to a phone line, when you call to activate it, just tell the csr you dont have a phone, they can bypass the phone check screen, and they will charge you an extra 4.98 a month
