Washington, D.C. (December 5, 2007) -- Discovery Communications says it will launch two more High-Definition channels in January.
That's according to an article in TV Week.
David Zaslav, Discovery's CEO, made the disclosure Monday during a presentation at the UBS Global Media & Communications Conference in New York.
However, Zaslav did not reveal the names of the channels -- or whether any TV providers would carry them.
Discovery's parent company, Liberty Media, is expected to take ownership of DIRECTV in the coming weeks so the channels could find a quick home in the satcaster's lineup.
Discovery now has five high-def channels: HD Theater, Discovery Channel HD, TLC HD, Animal Planet HD and Science Channel HD.
TV Week reports that developing new HD channels is costly but the company believes it's securing "beach front property" in cable and satellite lineups.
"As more people get HD sets, Discovery will have seven of the 30 to 40 channels people will want to watch on their new equipment," he said. "We look great in HD
