DirecTV Using A Window Of Opportunity

I don't see this as adding PPV channels as much as it's an increase in the on demand offerings that can be downloaded.

They already said they were going to use some of the new HD capacity for more PPV channels, so thats a given. Obviously if they're going to do 400 movies instead of 30, they're going to have to put up at least 8-10 more PPV channels.

Then they're going to have to figure out how to find 400 movies that people will pay $6 a pop to watch.

I dont know why they arent leveraging the VOD service instead of soaking up more satellite bandwidth.

First of all this isn't new info. D* mentioned this months ago. So no surprises here.

Now they don't have capacity for 400 more HD channels so obviously it won't be that. What D* could be talking about is more VOD "choices" or on their existing HD PPV channels (they did add about 7 or 8 on Monday) having multiple titles appearing on the same channel but just different times of the day instead of having one title playing all day.

Now one of the spaceway satellites is sitting there virtually empty. Could D* leverage that satellite somehow to do on demand pushes like they do on a limited basis now? The 10-15 HD VODs that are already downloaded to your DVR on pushed from a satellite.

While D* has talked about the 400 PPVs, they've never once mentioned how they are going to do this.

The more and more I look at what Directtv offers, the less a like them. I can't wait until my contract is up. It has been a long 2 years.

I personally do not care if they add more ppv IF it doesnt keep people from getting the other channels they want.

I can see the appeal for D* in having these, but I can understand the frustration if a channel that you want is not available. For me, I have everything now that I want, so it doesnt bother me.
