DIRECTV to Expand National Operations Hub in Denver Early Next Year; Expansion Will Include Technical Call Center Operations, Field Services, Supply Chain Management, Independent Retailer Support and IT/Data Services EL SEGUNDO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 14, 2006-- Will Create Up To 1,000 New JobsDIRECTV, Inc., the nation's leading digital television service provider, will significantly expand its national operations center in Denver early next year. The expanded Denver operations will form the nexus of all sales and service support for DIRECTV's more than 15.4 million customers nationwide.
The expanded operation will move to a new facility, scheduled to open in early 2007, and will oversee all customer care operations nationwide including Call Center Management, Field Services, Supply Chain Management, Independent Retail Services Support, and a variety of other support functions, including an expanded IT/Data Center operation.
Also located in the new facility will be a customer sales call center, a commercial support call center, and a technical support customer call center that will provide support for new advanced products and services, including DVRS, HD DVRS, HD and interactive services. Initial call center hiring will begin in late 2006.
The expanded operation will be located in a six-story, 257,000-square foot facility -- formerly occupied by ICG -- in the Inverness Business Park in southeast Denver. DIRECTV estimates the expansion will create up to 1,000 new jobs in Denver.
"We have intensified our focus on service as our 15.4 million customer base continues to grow and we rollout a widening array of advanced products and services that require close support," said John Suranyi, president, DIRECTV Sales and Service. "The Denver facility will give us the opportunity to create a true operational command center to more closely manage and support every aspect of customer sales and service nationwide."
"We've had critical operations in the Denver area for several years, including the Castle Rock Broadcast Center that uplinked the first DIRECTV signals 12 years ago," he added. "With the concentration of telecommunications businesses, along with the enormously talented workforce, it made sense for us to expand our operations and create jobs here."
In addition to the national operations center in Denver, the Castle Rock broadcast uplink facility south of Denver has 110 employees, and a local broadcast collection facility was recently opened near the site of the new operations facility. DIRECTV also owns and operates call centers in Boise, Idaho, Huntsville, Ala., and Tulsa, Okla., and will open a technical call center in Missoula, Mont., this summer.
