directv spotbeams

are directv's spotbeams as big as dish networks the reason why i ask is i was able to receive RENO, NV locals on dish and i am 512 mile nw from Reno. when i look at the spotbeam map they look pretty big but i am not sure if i am looking at the right one

Certain ones must be much large then the smaller or overlapping markets. We Chicagoans have laughed for years about being able to pick up the local spotbeam 300 miles away (East of Chicago in my case). Another chap added he received the Chicago locals in North Carolina which appeared almost 800 miles away to the s/e. It was so far I thought maybe the Chicago's were on conus; they aren't.
