Directv single 4k box?

Not that I know of.
Maybe the H25 could support 4k with a software update, but they really need to come out with an updated H25. Its been the same receiver for almost 8 years

That's an interesting scenario ....
They always say to put the C61k on the 4k TV and the Genie on a different TV . ...
That doesn't address the only one TV or recvr in the house scenario ....
Wonder what they do in that scenario ?
They could put both the HR54 and C61k on the same TV I guess but it seems like an odd thing to do.
You would actually have to change in puts to watch the 4k, unless you used the C61k for the main box, then the HR54 basically is a DVR .....

I strongly suspect that the goal is to have as many server/client setups as possible going forward. I'd be shocked to see a new receiver/dvr at this point.
It's pretty clear that DirecTVs direction is client server. Actually, more like it is ATTs direction with all their services, not just DirecTV. The HS17 is server only, and there are rumors of an HS27 and 37 on their way.

So far the C61K is the only receiver that has a 2.0 HDMI -Hardware port- SO remfg. the H25 for a compliant HDMI 2.0 Hardware would not make sense - When you can make NEW Boxes that don't output direct to a TV - Therefore When the HDMI requirements change again (and they will) you’re NOT left with a lot of Obsolete additional hardware in the field or have that expense of MFG on your books
I was having installed on Saturday and when they placed the order they put I had 2 tvs. When he came out to install and know where everything was he told me that the ordered it as I had 2 tvs. He tried to talk me into using the TVs built in box but I said I was ok with the 2 units. He also told me that he would not have just ordered this for 4k since in his opinion it was a very limited technology as of today. So that is why I was asking about a signal box or if one was coming. So I told him that if that is what his recommendation was then cancel the install.One tv in the house can't have 4k, but then you knew that!

So a person with only 1 TV can't have 4k, that' ridiculous ..... it will cost you extra but you should be able to do it ....
I phrased that really poorly. You can't have 4k with only one box. You need a Genie and a 4k client, the C61k. That's what I meant to say the first time.

They are not at the point with genie and clients, especially large hotels
Why? Any wiring configuration hotels have with a receiver per room would work equally well with clients per room and server in the closets or wherever they have the SWMs.
Directv doesn't support genie/clients for commercial yet (except for that ridiculous HR54/C61K per TV solution available to bars who want 4K) but that's not because it isn't technically possible they just aren't ready. My money is on never seeing another standalone receiver, and HSxx and clients being supported on commercial. It might arrive last in hotels since it is more demanding (they need support for PPV, inserting their own interactive channels, etc.) but I doubt there's a big line forming for hotels that want to have 4K in the room so Directv can take their time there.
Well, I have only one TV so when I had my first 4K setup with DirecTV I had an HR54 and a C61K hooked up to the same TV. Now I have an HS17 and a C61K.
True, but rvu used as the client still costs $7/month and although not a physical box box it is required.
