While it's appreciated that DirecTV is performing excellent prep for 4k, the linear broadcast industry (think alphabet soup of networks) is nowhere near ready for this format.
At this point, most broadcasters haven't even reached 1080p, so therefore anyone getting 4k television sets (or devices) would really only enjoy true 4k resolution via some movies and/or special events (if they're available).
My friends in the industry certainly indicate that while 4k (and, in some cases, 8k) cameras are being used in cinematography, it's going to be some years (maybe 5?) before standards are fully fleshed out to incorporate 4k into a broadcasting environment.
