DIRECTV, Best Buy "Team Up" On Retail Deal

Anyone who buys an HDTV from Best Buy will receive a $30 credit on their DIRECTV bill so they can upgrade to a high-def service plan.

"We know that customers buying HD televisions are doing so because they want a certain kind of experience," said Chris Homeister, Best Buy's vice president of merchandising for home entertainment services.

"By offering to help pay a customer's DIRECTV bill we're making a dramatic statement about the importance of connecting a television to the right source for HD programming. We want customers to have the same quality picture in their home that they saw in our stores."

Of course, there are terms depending on how much TV the customer buys.

On HD sets priced at $999 and up, Best Buy will provide "12 months of DIRECTV service credits", = $ 360.00

While purchases under $999 will qualify for "six months of credits".= $ 180.00

Best Buy customers who just activate a new DIRECTV service plan will receive three months of $30 credits. = $ 90.00

If your a consumer who buys a new HDTV who are you going to order DirecTV from

a long standing , always been there DirecTV retailer or BEST BUY

try to compete with these types of profit margins ????

Once again !!!!

The promotion, which launched in-store this week, will run until June 24, Best Buy said.

Kind of stings huh ! I would be pissed if I was an independent retailer and had to try and compete against this.

This should close the doors of some mom and pops. Mission accomplished DirecTv.

This community is mostly consumers. You may want to head to our sister site dishretailer.com which is a forum for retailers.

The $30 off promo is good for consumers, but may not be the best deal considering the other offers D* gives outside of the best buy promo.

The $18 off for X months, the AAA offer for new customers, the referral credit, all combined end up about the same savings.

I'm not sure if retailers/dealers can offer that kind of stuff or if it is just through direct.

DirecTV has not been quiet about it, they are trying to move more of their sales to the direct channel versus using retailers/dealers, in fact they have been eliminating some retailers / dealers all together.

Don't take Offence ,But prices have caused many mom and pop shops to close. We used to have one right around the corner. Nicest family business I've ever delt with. Problem was Price. And now its closed! The closest compition was 28 miles away.

Yeah, the investor's conference last week had a nice graph in their pdf presentation file. It showed Directv's direct sales vs independent dealers market share. Directv now has 50% and you know they are going to go for more. Sucks for the independent dealers out there, the ones that got Directv off the ground back in the day.

Page 87 has the graph!
Sears is where I got my first Directv system. It cost $800. I still have it too! Of course I don't use the equipment anymore! But I think Sears deals with Dishnetwork now.

I'm not sure if retailers/dealers can offer that kind of stuff or if it is just through direct.
Little to none of the cool promotional deals are available through authorized dealers. The most disappointing being the inability to offer referral credits.

As does everyone who doesn't want to have to do battle with BB, CC and DIRECTV themselves.
I don't really look at it as a battle. How much money is their to be made from selling leased D* equipment. I doubt much! And maybe its Best Buy giving the incentives, not Directv. Directvs not selling TV's.

Not to mention the money it's may cost D* because of the lawsuit for failing to notify customers that the equipment was leased. :( D* may be doing this to prevent those types of problems in the future, and to eliminate the issues created by, "Well, my local retailer said I could get this for this amount of money".

It is the responsibility of the retailor to post the "Lease" info where the customer can see it.

When I was in BB last , they were posted in easy sight , CC on the other hand was not.
Costco has ALWAYS been posted, right above on the sign with the cost of the rec.
