Hi,

I have a couple of questions about locals from DirecTV. I know that locals are available for my state and they are INCLUDED in all the packages, but I'm curious if I can order my service WITHOUT local channels..?

The other question I have is, If I can order it without my locals will a standard reciever be able to get digital signals from my antenna? I know they work for analog signals. And I think an HD reciever can do this, but will a standard reciever?

EDIT: I'm also curious If I can use an old receiver that I have, It's an old RCA from the late 90s thats never been used...or will they try and make me pay 5.99 rental for a new one?

Thanks

WELCOME!

Yes, I believe you can get packages that exclude your locals for a $5/mo discount if I remember correctly.

You will need an HD capable device to receive OTA digital.

Even if you bring your own receiver, you will still pay a monthly mirror fee.

No locals is $3 less per month, but the CSR's are not supposed to put people on that plan if they have locals in their area.

It is just up to who you get.

Thank you for the quick replies. I have a few more questions: What is a monthly "mirror" fee and how much is it?

Also, your telling me I will probably have a hard time NOT getting my locals, and if I dont get them, I'll need an HD receiver and have to pay the $9.99 fee for HD access? Or can this somehow be waived? (I dont have a high def tv)

For a user's 2nd receiver and up there is a fee of $4.99 per each receiver.

1. If you are not going to subscribe to any HD then you will not need any HD devices or HD service/subscription.

2. Even if you do not have an HDTV, you can still take advantage of some of the MPEG4 HD only channels if you wish; as the DirecTV HD units will down-convert those to signal to a 480p/480i resolution your current TV can use.

3. If you did try #2; then YES, you would then have the HD units and the HD subscriptions fees associated.

4. If you try #2; then you would also have access to DirecTV DoD/VoD via their internet enabled unit. (I am not sure if any of the SD units do this)
