Directv lease

Directv wants 499.00 rebate of 100.00 for a hd/dvr 4room system that is a lease.
Does anybody know what the 499.00 is for if you are not buying the system.

to "recoupe" from the losses of "giving" you the ird. i think having to pay for a lease is bs. it is $8/mo to lease a hd-dvr from the cable company i work for. no upfront fees.
