DirecTV Latin America will consolidate several functions that have been based at its facility in Miami Lakes, Fla., into its California Broadcast Center in Long Beach, Calif.
The DirecTV Group Inc. unit said that about 100 positions will be eliminated in Miami Lakes and some 30 new positions will be created at the CBC.
The company expects the Miami Lakes facility to cease broadcast operations during the second quarter of 2006.
Employees at the Miami Lakes Facility will be offered retention and severance packages, and outplacement services will be available, DirecTV Latin America said.
“This consolidation supports our goals of achieving greater operational efficiencies and reducing costs,” DirecTV Latin America president Bruce Churchill said in a prepared statement. “It also will enable us to more easily emulate the technology roadmap of DirecTV [Inc.] U.S.”
