DirectTV DVR and land phone line

I share an account with my landlord and was wanting to get a DVR.
He already has a DVR was told by DirectTV that I can only have one if it's also connected to a land phoneline. I only have a cell phone and have no plans on ever getting a landline.
Are their any alternatives?

No phone line is needed. I have had a DVR since November not hooked to a phone line and have had NO issues.

You dont NEED a phone line, the only problem you will run into is with pay per views-you will not be able to order pay per views with the remote, only over the phone, or via the web.

Quit sharing your account and pay in full like everyone else, or do without.
