Does direct have a VOD similar to the cable company were I can find older movies? Thanks for any information.

VOD with DirecTV is limited at this point. You'd need to check the offerings on their DoD page.

On Demand currently has 726 movies (many PPV or premium channels)

It is similar to cable as far as selection and break downs however where cable plays instantly, directv needs to be connected to the internet then it downloads, however you can play it before its fully downloaded so its not bad at all.

If you want to view a DoD while it's downloading, the receiver will give you a hint when it's OK to start. If the download progress bad is RED good chance that you'll hit the end of the buffer and the playback will pause. YELLOW says it may or may not run out of buffer, GREEN says good chance that you'll not run out of buffer and it's safe to start playing.
