I'm currently a Dish subscriber. Unfortunately for my particular situation, I can't get Dish HD since that satellite is not in the Southeastern sky like SD and I don't have a clear view in the HD direction.

I called Direct and they claim that both SD and HD satellites require a Southeastern view only.

Can anyone please verify? If this is true, I will go to Direct.

Thanks.

If you dont mind telling us where do you live.

Depending on where you live in the US depends on which Satellite carries your HD from Dish.

On the west coast they use 148 which is just a little to the southwest but not by much. On the East coast it is 61.5

If you are closer to the east coast you could probably get dish to put a eastern arch dish ( assuming all your recievers are mpeg4 compatable that hd and sd on one dish .

If your getting Dish your looking at the 119, if you have a clear view from the back of the dish 5 degrees to the left and 15 degrees to the right then your good. D* uses 99/101/103 for HD and some areas use 110/119 for locals and HD locals. Dish uses 129 for HD and every once in a while 61.xx for HD

So in short if your getting SD from Dish you should be good for HD from Directv.

129 was used for Locals and misc it was a odd ball slot

148 was the west coast HD sat.

So on the east coast where would the average Dish Customer get their HD feeds from? 110 and 119?

East coast HD 61.5 ( Current )
West coast HD 148 ( OLD )
West coast HD 129 ( Current)
110/119 is standard def programing ppv some locals have HD version on 110 spot beams, but alot are on either 61.5 or 148 depending on location.

Now your have Dish new Eastern Arc dish
that hits
61.5, 72.7 , 77 It only for new customers or customers with all Mpeg4 equipment. As all the stations onf 72.7 and 77 are mpeg4 . All HD on 61.5 and 148 is now mpeg 4.

I believe the OP was requesting information about DirecTV HD satellite locations. They are at 99, 101, and 103.
Let's keep the discussion here for DirecTV.

No offense I rather keep him a loyal dish customer. He probably had a lazy installer and gave him a bs reason. I trying to protect him from downgrading his dvr experience. But the converstation went side ways.. he has his answer 5 post ago.

Knowing is half the battle GI Joe.

DISH originally had West Coast HD on 148 but it is currently on 129.

The dish talk was to try and help him get a visual of where the D* birds are in relation to his current set up.. I gave mis-information as to where the E* tech was call NLOS from and StoneCold corrected it. Nothing off topic here aside from your blurb. and now this one.

129 is kinda the odd bird of the bunch is thought. Now my cousin when I was out there about 3 months go out on Lake Bill as they call it still had 119/110 148 setup.

EDIT:

I just called him He had 129 installed a while ago but it on a actually on the backside of his place I apparently never saw it. He kept 148 up for international channnels according to him.

I install on the west coast, and we use the 129 for HD, I haven't touched a 148 dish at all since I have been out here.
