I have my Hopper and Joeys setup with audio receivers-HDMI from the Joey to the receiver then HDMI from the receiver to the TV. My sound is output to 5.1 speaker system from the receiver. Pretty standard setup, right?
My question: Would there be any advantage/difference to use the digital audio output on the Hopper/Joey into my receiver as far as decoding digital sound and sending it to my speakers? Or is the HDMI from the H/J doing the same thing?
Thanks!
Frank

The toslink is a high quality feed.....and can carry over 5.1 audio... Personal preference mostly.

I went all hdmi years ago. I eliminated the T link cables and only use the one to my blu ray player - which I rarely use these days , since I can watch Netflix on my hopper now.

The only reason to use Toslink on the Hopper is to get 5.1 sound for Netflix (it's the only way). Otherwise, I'd stick with HDMI...
