Hello there

I'm looking to purchase an H24 DirecTV receiver, however a couple h24 receivers that I'm looking at online do not support DVR

If I were to buy a receiver, do I have to buy some special additional DVR component, to access DVR?

I should note that SOME receivers that I'm looking at will say it includes DVR...Would that mean that all I'd have to do is plug into my house, and I'd have a HD receivers that has a DVR feature?

Can anybody help clarify all of this for me?

Thanks!

HR24 is the hd dvr receiver. H24 is a stand alone hd receiver.

:welcome to Satelliteguys zabrak!

Keep in mind that you have to pay a $10/month dvr fee, which covers all dvrs on your account. You won't own the dvr, it's a lease. That's unless you find one that's owned, but they are rare. If you get it from Directv or somewhere like SolidSignal, it will be a lease.

Hmm interesting

Well basically I'm about to be a used HR-24 receiver off Ebay

so to get it to be properly run (I already have an account with other DVR receviers in the household)..I'd just need to make some 30 min. phone call to activate the receiver, right?

Be very careful about buying used equipment. Unless it is "owned" DirecTV will not activate it - you need to ask the seller for the receiver ID number, then you need to call DirecTV and ask for the access card department, and ask them to confirm the receiver is not leased and so can be activated. Many people try to "sell" leased equipment and if you buy it, it is just a doorstop....
Also you can't just assume it will work with what you already have. It depends on the dish you have, and how many receivers/DVRs you already have - if you post back with the dish type, and more info about your current setup we can help you work though that.

LISTEN TO TEXASBRIT! DON'T BUY IT FROM EBAY UNTIL YOU CONFIRM IT'S ACTUALLY OWNED!

I just sold an HR24 on eBay, I hope this ain't the same person, Because I verified that is owned before I bought it for myself, but it was just sitting in my bedroom, with no activation of the said receiver, so I sold it on eBay and put in the receiver id number so that potential buyers can check with Directv reps.
HR24 is a HD DVR receiver for recordings, and a H24 is a HD (non DVR) stand alone receiver H24 requires $10 month HD service, and HR24 requires both DVR service and HD service which is $20 a month for both services.
