OLN and The Tennis Channel are playing doubles with domestic coverage of U.S. Davis Cup action in 2006.
Through a deal with the United States Tennis Association, OLN and Tennis will begin their coverage this weekend against Romania.
The agreement, terms of which were not disclosed, will provide for full, live coverage, as well as same-day primetime replays of all U.S. team matches.
ESPN was the former rights-holder for Davis Cup action, which pits national teams against each other.
OLN will cover the first two singles matches against Romania from La Jolla, Calif., starting at 2 p.m. (EST) Feb. 10; Tennis will encore the matches at 8 p.m. The following day, OLN will present the doubles match at 4 p.m., with Tennis replaying it four hours later.
On Feb. 12 at 2 p.m., OLN will start the final day's live coverage with the first singles match. If the tie is not decided at the conclusion of this first match, OLN will broadcast the second singles match until 5 p.m., when live coverage will shift to Tennis until the second match’s conclusion. Tennis will then air a replay of the day’s competition at 8 p.m.
In subsequent rounds, OLN will provide live coverage of all U.S. Davis Cup home competitions to be followed by same-day replays on Tennis. Scheduling of away broadcasts will be contingent on the country of origin. Tennis will also continue televising non-U.S. Davis Cup matches throughout the year.
Encore coverage of the matches will also be available on OLN’s Web site (www.olntv.com), according to the network.
The U.S. squad against Romania features world No. 3 Andy Roddick, No. 20 James Blake and the top-ranked doubles team of Bob and Mike Bryan, who won the 2006 Australian Open.
