In my career as an engineer I often quoted the expression "When all else fails, read the manual". Well I am embarrassed to say the manual clearly states that it may take up to ten seconds to identify the USB drive. I recall reading that and dismissing it thinking it meant only upon installation. It's usually no problem as programs don't usually get off the mark immediately, but be aware if you suddenly decide to do an instant record.
