Does Dish have a built-in multiswitch like D* does ?? I forgot to ask about this, but when I asked/told the installers where I'd like the multiswitch mounted (hidden, out of the way), they said "there is no multiswitch". Also, in the 622 box, is a splitter that I don't know what would be for, but I presume it allows (1) cable to run to the reciever, then be split into (2) for the (2) SAT inputs on the receiver.

My neighbor also asked where my switch was because another neighbor has theirs mounted right on the front of their house, with the cables drip-looped there too. Very bad looking, IMO...

The new Dish Pro Plus lnbs have the switch built in and alow for running only one cable and using a seperator (not really a splitter) at the back of dual tuner receivers. On my 500, the switch on the lnb(Pro Plus) has an input for a 3rd orbital slot (61.5 here) so they just run a cable from the 2nd dish to the main dish, then a cable out of that. I would assume the 1000 is similar.

The switch is built inside the DPP Twin.

The splitter looking device is a DPP seperator, this will give you dual tuner cability off of one line on that type of reciever.

On the Dish 1000 you have two sets of LNBs;

First:
DPP Twin (2) out ports and one (1) in port.
Second:
DP single/Dual (1 out port/2 out port)

If all your getting is a 1 room D1000 install this is what your getting. With the same equipment you will be able to also add a 322 reciever giving you the potential of a 4 room install. 1-1-1, 1-1-2, 1-2-3,1-2-4.

On edit:
The installer could go that route installing an actual external switch like your neighbors, but it's not needed... its a waste of company money and labor as well as cosmetically ugly (depending on who you are) to install such a setup while keeping in mind the D1000 is still relatively newer technology where a external switch is no longer needed.
