OK, since there is no forum for this, I will post here. I did an honest comparison of D* vs FIOS (Philadelphia area) HD offerings, please see attached spreadsheet for details. Here are the highlights, where the FIOS column is "N" but D* is "Y" for HD:
Altitude

FSN Rocky Mountain
FSN South
FSN Southwest
FSN West

Mid-Atlantic Sports
MSG Plus

Here are the differences where FIOS is a "Y" but D* is an "N":
Action Max (West)
Action Max (East)

ESPNU
ESTV

So, D*, as usual, seems preoccupied with Sports, while FIOS leans towards the movie fan but offers a more balanced approach than D*. Comments?

I took the data from the respective websites, I guess D* hasn't updated it. I thought was an error but wasn't sure since I only have limited D* right now. I will correct the spreadsheet.

NP, BTW, DirecTV also has BET in HD, also something not updated on their web site yet. They also have Golf in HD and HD Net Movies.

DirecTV has Palladia HD....but your list says they dont.

DirecTV has MSG HD....fios doesnt....but your list says fios does.

Bottom line is:
1) FiOS offers more HD
2) If you are looking for sports in HD than go with DTV otherwise go with FiOS.*

* don't forget DTV offers tons of regional sports channels in HD but for the most part they don't mean dick unless you are into college and high-school sports since all major league games are blacked out without subscribing to the major league packages.

Sorry. D* has that stupid HD extra pack that is not listed on the premier PDF. I will correct. Why they don't just include it with Choice Extra or Premier defies the imagination. Oh and BTW I can't get to the Current Setup link posted earlier, dbstalk says it is limited to adminstrators.

verizon fios gets their signal from directv. So Directv should have more money making HD channels.

An up-to-date list of all National HD channels can be found here. FiOS currently offers 112 National HD channels while D* offers 71.
Add in premium movie channels and its 120 to 79 in this DMA.

War Zone material?

That chart doesnt include the 20+ HD RSNs directv has.

Also doesnt include channels like The 101 network HD on directv.
Verizon offers many of those RSN in the regions they serve, but they do not currently offer them in their old sports package...but perhaps this may change in the future. Regardless, both do a good job with the numbers...so quality is HD quality is a more important factor to me.

One small problem, D* is available most places, fios is available some places.
