'Cyber Monday' is time to shop
Employers may think that come Monday it's back to work after a long holiday weekend. But for some employees, it's back to shop.
More than one in three consumers say they'll be using their fast-access work computers this year for holiday purchases, according to a recent survey.
Online retailers await 'Cyber Monday'
U.S. online holiday sales are expected to hit nearly $20 billion this year and should take off on Monday, when consumers return to work and their fast Internet connections after the long Thanksgiving weekend.
"Cyber Monday," the term coined for the Monday after Thanksgiving, comes on the heels of the busy "Black Friday" shopping day when many brick-and-mortar retailers begin turning a profit.
Brace yourself for 'Cyber Monday'; online retail's big day is about to hit
Black Friday is only just behind us, but looming on the not-so-distant horizon is a new retail shopping holy day known as "Cyber Monday."
This retail moniker, recently christened by the National Retail Federation, refers to the surge in e-commerce on the Monday after Thanksgiving.
A recent study done for the federation's Shop .org online division found that this is one of the biggest online shopping days of the year.
Not surprisingly, the trend gets its teeth from younger consumers.
Nearly 51 percent of 18- to 24-year-olds surveyed said that they would use the Internet to buy holiday gifts this year. In contrast, only 17 percent of the 65-and-up crowd said they intended to purchase gifts online.
