current customer incentive

I would rather pay $10 a month and pick the 6 channels that I actually want instead of $90 for 114 channels I don't want.
Wouldn't we all. But as Chad points out, the channel owners would never allow it. The only thing that would force a situation like that would be a government mandate.

I know the shopping ones pay to be aired. Was under the impression the religious ones are. But this one, I'll take your word for. Either way, those fees cannot be high at all. Extremely minimal.

Pretty sure the religious channels do pay to be broadcast. They are listed under what are known as "Active channels" which includes all the shopping channels, and they're generally not in a particular package. One way to tell for sure would be to try and tune them on a deactivated receiver.

As a Dish employee, my opinions are my own, and do not represent my employer in any way, shape, or form.

Where did you get $10 from other than picking it out of the sky? See that is the problem, and I'm not picking on you, that exact wish has been posted before. First, No Cable or Satellite company could stay in business if $10 was all that was required to be purchased. But even more than that, once popular channels are not bundled, you are going to be very disappointed how much each popular channel will cost. Rather than explaining it further this is a very good article below. The "X" factor in this is sports, and I can see someone who never watches sports or is willing not to at home could do better than those that do, but still not anywhere near your $10.

There are hundreds more that come to the same conclusion. I will add, I believe most people in the U.S. do want the choice of channels and would not be happy to come home to the same 6 channels.

Even online I see the cost being more already than people thought just a year or so ago. Companies are not going to give their product away. That all said - cost is out of control and unless the economy improves something will have to change. Some here have suggested going back to theme packs that are added to a smaller core package.

As a technician I will not work for free or anywhere close to min wage.
So if you want technicians to fix stuff and support the infrastructure expect to pay.

Never forget pay for tv is a luxury product or service.

It's just best if people quit wishing for A La Carte and packages for only $10 because it's not going to happen. It's like the saying goes, you can wish in one hand and crap in the other; see which one gets filled first.

I'm pretty sure that's why both DISH and DIRECTV have been going to town on shifting hardware subsidies out of the programming charges.
