i was given an old dish network 3700 receiver.

I dont want to sub to another service.

These receivers can receive DVB which is the same standard as Free To Air

I need to know what all would be involved.

Its not so much do to this for fun, its to do it so I can say I did it

and i need something to do.

Note: This WILL NOT be used in any way shape or form to receive illegal programming, I want to make it so I can receiver ITC Fta Channels on here

Thanks

There is a 'dish to FTA' conversion FW flash out there that is supposed to be for True FTA and not the pirate version. It is supposed to be able to support adjustable parameters such as SR and the like. I have not tried this FW and cant speak to the claims.
The 3700 is STi5500 based as I recall, and in incompatable with the conversion, which is STi5518 based. The DN irds that are 5518 based are the 301-013 (NOT -005,-010 models) and the 50X series PVRs. AFAIK no one has attempted to crippled a 50x to try to use it as a rudimentary FTA box.
