Conversion Problems to HD

I recently upgraded my system to HD and am having a few issues. I previously utilized a Sony MRD-D1 modulator with a Channel Plus 5216. It has worked great over the past 10 -15 years with no problems. However, since I upgraded to the HD with the new dish, I can't get the old modulator & channel plus to work. another issues I had was getting new remotes (RF). I had the Sony RM-Y130 Rf remotes and they seemed much stronger than the new ones I purchased from Directv (RC64R). My questions...

1. Are the issues I am having with my modulator due to not working with the new HD technology and if so is there something you could recommend to replace my old equipment or should it still work ?

2. Is there a way to increase the power for my new Directv RF remotes?

3. I was told you could not use spliters with the new HD. Is that accurate?

For question 1 I've used a Radio Shack modulator with a HR22 HD-DVR. RF Modulator - RadioShack.com

Not sure on question 2.

Question 3, if you have SWM installed I believe you can use splitters, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

The modulator should work fine. You just need to make sure you are using the composite outputs from the DVR.

What receiver do you have? Some of them have an external antenna for the receiver.
