I am a victim of the fiasco concerning Dish and their decision not to broadcast 47 Atlanta Braves games in the Atlanta area. As a result I am seriously considering a move from Dish to Direct. Another incentive is the offer being made by Direct via the Costco web site. I am not very familiar with Direct equipment so I am soliciting advise from Direct subscribers. Which receivers, with recording capability, would you recommend for someone who has two high definition televisions? What are the pit falls that a new subscriber should be aware of? Please provide any additional information that you feel will be helpful.

has 1 TB hard drive , boh rooms will be full dvr and will both have full access to VOD.
Up front cost will most likely be free, you will get all the premiums for 3 months free, Plus either MLB EI or free NFL sunday ticket.
and $30 monthly rebates for the first 12 months.
The catch
depending on your location, you may be charged RSN fee $1-3

I did the same thing 3 weseks ago, Direct TV looks better at my house. I got a Hr 34 whole house DVR, 2 mini genies. HD with the mini genies 3 HD tvs. Dish wanted me to pay for the LNBs left on the Dish. I went on FB & complained, they apologized & removed the charges. E-mail about this didn't work, I'm happy now watching the Braves vs Mets
I dropped DirecTV in 2011 only to come back in 2012. I was offered a good deal upon my return via Costco as well which provided advanced receiver credits, free Sunday Ticket and fixed pricing for the first 2 years of my agreement.
As for the DVR, the Genie (HR34) is the best dvr offered by DirecTV. The recording capacity is the largest of the DirecTV dvr's and allows you to record 5 programs at once.

I left Dish for the five tuner dvr direct offered. Been almost a year now, wife and I are happy as a clam at high tide!

The ultimate setup is just going with an HD DVR in every Room.

I understand that an additional device is required for over the air reception. When that device is installed will I be able to record OTA programs with it? Does the program guide include the OTA programming received with this device?

Yes, you can record ota signals from the AM21 tuner. You will get guide info. If you get a Genie, it will scan for channels. All other receivers/dvrs get the channels from a database so you may not get all of your locals. You can add an external hard drive. Unfortunately Directv's setup disables the internal hard drive and it can't be moved from one dvr to another without reformatting. It must be an esata hd.
I'm going to go out on a limb, and assume his problems are the lack of rewinding and pausing live tv with the H25. Which does not bother me one bit. I personally would rather the H25 then the client!
Agree. I was thinking about a client, but now that Directv wants $7.99 for the protection plan for their bogus upgrade offer I get in December , I'm demanding HR24 otherwise I 'm not accepting an upgrade at all , and not signing a commitment. The $14 increase per month this year brought that on!
Agree, I used my sisters Client for about 10 minutes and decided the H25 is by far a much better functioning receiver. I don't mind hitting record for the DVR functions to work on it. And If I want VOD that bad, I have HR34 and HR23 that I can set VOD to record from.
He is complaining about the h25 if I am not mistaken, not the client.
For most, the client will give a superior experience from a whole home dvr perspective. (versus a non dvr receiver)

I would imagine that is his complaint as well.
Personally, I take the opposite stance. I would much rather have full dvr functionality with a client versus the H-25.

I guess that it is important to rehash old information about the fact that the H25 is an independent 1-tuner receiver that is connected to the HD DVR/Genie under whole home DVR,whereas the C31/C41 client is a slave unit tied to the Genie,& if the Genie goes down,you lose ALL TV viewing with the client versus still having TV to watch with the H25.
Which also begs the question,say that I kept my HR24,but returned my HR22 & HR23 for a HR34/44 Genie & one C31/41 client. Would the client be able to see recordings from the HR24 under whole home DVR in addition to the Genie?
