I have what is evidently a unique situation. I have an HD DVR receiver. In order to record one channel and watch another, I have to have two lines connected to the receiver. However, my problem is that my TV is mounted inside the wall above my fireplace. When the house was built they only ran one sat. cable into that location. There is no way that I can get another line to that receiver due to its location. I wanted to use a multiswitch between the wall jack and the receiver, but I have been told that it also requires a line for each LNB.

I have a multiswitch that is connected to the sat. and then to each line that was pre-wired in the house during construction. Since I can't get another line to the TV, I can't use a multiswitch. Is there anything else out there that will allow me to split that signal from the wall jack to the receiver?

Each satellite connection needs its own RG6 cable since it it sending a signal back to dish depending on what channel you are watching. There is no way around it.

Couldn't you disconnect the cable from the dish, tape a second cable to it at the closest point you can access, and pull it through? Then pull the first cable back and reconnect it?

We do that a lot here at work. Of course, if there are a lot of twists and turns, or no room for the second cable, it won't work.

Why would any company put a TV above a Fireplace, and the soot and smoke goes on the screen and into the workings of the set.

Also a very poor idea , due to the constant change in temp. from the fireplace being used, adding heat to expensive electronics is NEVER a good idea.

Normally, the sub has to request it to go above a fireplace for a company to install there.

You are not alone. There once in awhile I run into a customer who has this 1000 pound wall unit that nobody can move filled with stuff and electronics thousands of wires and other junk then he expects you to install new receiver or fix a problem without moving all that mount of crap. Come on get realistic you cant block access to equipment and then expect to work with it. Just break that dam wall and get it out.

There is no such thing as can't.

As a master electrician, who specializes in OLD WORK and WALL FISHES, I have tackled and suceeded in getting cables into places, which others have declared impossible.

You just have to find the right person and be prepared to pay for his or her expertise.

Maybe the guy never intends to use it, or perhaps it is a faux fireplace.

I HAVE seen this senario, One of my sub's was having thier TV mounted above the fireplace and I ask them about it, and advised them of the potentual problems and they told me that they will rarely be using the fireplace... I hope thet is true.
