Hi,

I want to add my two line HR-10-250 to my existing and totally crappy two line Directv HR20 so I can record four shows at once, all in HD if neccessary. I asked around about a year ago and was told that there was a multi switch in the works to handle this task but it wasn't available yet. Anybody know about this particular hook up?

It's not really a CE topic, but you can connect two lines from each to the multiswitch on a Slimline dish or a separate WB68 multiswitch. The Single Wire Multiswitch (SWM8) doesn't support the HR10-250, but has three legacy ports which could be used (with a single line to the HR2x DVR).

The HR10-250 won't receive MPEG4 channels and the days of MPEG2 HD are numbered.

... and the line "totally crappy two line Directv HR20" is a total joke / bait line.

Sorry, don't know what you mean by that. I've gone through four of these already and now this one is acting up. This is the machine Directv put out there when they got rid of TiVo? You gotta be kidding me! It's downright prehistoric by comparison.

Between their DVR issues and the damn rain issues, like tonight as the Rangers were scoring a last second game tying goal that I never saw because a downpour pixelated the screen, I'm about ready to go elsewhere. Unfortunately for me, Directv is the only carrier in my area that has MSG HD, not Comcast nor Verizon. I;ve been a customer since day one but I'm getting really frustrated by their service.

Oh yeah, that's another gripe. How many models now have they come out with that we're forced to pony up up to a $1000 to get all their new HD channels? The HR20 is the third, no? Can't remember the model number of the one before the HD10-250, but it ran about $1000. Thank God I'm a valued customer.

The 1st HD DVR was the HR10-250 and it was $999.00, but that was also back when a non-DVR HD box was $500, so a box with two DBS HD tuners and two ATSC tuners plus a harddrive seemed like a real bargin.

The HR20, the 2nd HD DVR, was $299 but D* was offering discounts on that and even free swapouts to replace HR10-250's. Upgrades to the 5LNB dish was offered at $99 or if you were a 'good' customer free.

Currently the HR21 is $169 and the HR22 is $199 from the prices I've seen listed with the AM21 ATSC add on $50.00.

There was the Zenith Sat 520 HD that went for around $800 (the comparable Sony was $200 more) but I can't remember if that was a DVR or not. Still, the point is that every couple of years a new must have receiver comes out from D* and they aren't cheap.
