First of all, thank you for this forum and thanks to all you guys who are trying to help.

Can I connect to 61.5 EchoStar 3 and Rainbow 1
or EchoStar 9 at 121.0°W
>using 18" DirecTV Dish with 1 lnb or Dish Network DISH 500 with 2 LNB

if not can I connect to those using 31" dish

Do i need different type of LNB or one with this dish (above) will work?

I live in San Diego, CA if that has to do anything with it

I am planning to have Dish TV and FTA Receiver together, but for right now just wanna know if this dish can connect to those receivers

Thanks for your help :)

18" dishes and Dish500s both come with circular LNB's.

To receive 61.5 Degrees West you can use a 18" dish or a Dish 500 and a Circular LNB.

To receive the 121 Degrees West satellite you need to use a slightly larger dish, a Super Dish or similar dish (a 31" dish will work) and a linear LNB.

What channels are you trying to subscribe to on the 121 Degrees West satellite?

Also it is best to have your FTA setup and your Dish subscription separate.

Thanks for your help...

If i need to buy 31" dish for 121 then I wont look for it right now....

but if I use 18" dish can I get all channels provided by Dish on 61.5
I am looking for >> Zee TV USA, Zee Cinema USA, B4U Movies, Headlines Today International , Zee Gujarati USA, Sahara One, & MAX<<

Here is the link to it ::: DISH Network on EchoStar 3 & Rainbow 1 at 61.5°W - LyngSat

Thanks

The channels that you are interested in are all on the 61.5 Degrees West satellite.

Meaning that you only need a 18" dish.

You do not need a 31" dish or a dish pointing at the 121 Degrees West satellite.

Here's a list of what's on Dish @ 61º
That page has links to all their other birds.
Since you are on the west coast, look at the 148º satellite, and see if it carries what you want.
The 61º orbital slot is pretty low on the horizon...at about 19º elevation, from Los Angeles.

What sort of receiver are you using?

After Anole mentioned the 148 degrees west satellite I looked on Lyngsat and it also has all the channels you want. The 61.5 degree west satellite is low on the horizon but it can still be hit from Los Angeles.

Everything you need comes with the requisite Dish Network subscription. None of those channels are FTA (as indicated by the Nagravision 2 encoding).

I know harshness that they come with Dish thats why I wrote I am planning to buy it... I dont want to spend extra money to buy another Dish...

I am just asking this question because this are international channels and I heard people say that you need super dish (any dish more than 18") to get those channels... any one know anything about this??

Thanks Anole and qwet1514... so i can point my dish to 148 degrees west satellite and get all the channels too?

Thanks

Your welcome, yes, you can point your 18" satellite dish to the 61.5 degrees west satellite or the 148 degrees west satellite, both have the channels you want to subscribe to.

My point is that you don't have to buy any Dish Network equipment. They'll even install it for free.

Rather than trying to end around them, try the front door: DISH Network -- International

If you drill down to the individual service, it will list the satellite(s) and transponder(s) that carry it.
