Confused on what I need for 942 110/119/61.5

Ok...I was with DISH and went to a HD Set...tried cable...wanting to avoid the high cost 942...but Cable here sucks...the Motorola HD DVR keeps freezing and pixelates...so off to DISH...which is probably best.

So I am going to use my same DISH (DISH PRO 500 with Dual outputs...which used to go into my 721). Pointed at 110/119 - I have no visible switches or combiners.

and now I want to add another DISH PRO 500 pointed to 61.5 so I can get the 10 Voom HD Channels. What do I need for connecting the SAT w/110/119 to the SAT pointed to the 61.5? I have heard everything from SW21 to DP44 to you name it...I am confused...remember both DISHES are dual connection DISH PRO 500.

Is the 148 satellite usable for the 10 Voom channels?

I am also installing an OTA antenna for High Def locals...which I have heard that I can record on the 942...since they are Digital...I understand it won't record analog...right?

Anything else major I should know about the 942? I am excited...too bad it took seeing the dark side (CABLE) to realize this...

Thanks,
Rich :)

Hi Rich welcome to the site :welcome

Just so you know what you have.

You say you have a dish pro with dual outputs .I'm assuming that what you really got, but you just dont know the correct name, is a Dish Pro Twin. It's 2 lnbs inside a single casing with 2 outputs correct?

If so what I'd suggest you do is swap that LNB out with a Dish Pro Plus TWIN and find another dish 500 and mount use the old lnb on that dish, point it to 61.5 and run 1 cable from that old lnb into the 3rd port of the dish pro plus twin. Then run 1 cable from the dpp twin to the 942 use the seperator and run two cables into the 942

You could take the privous post suggestion and buy into a DP+Twin which has that port strictly for adding another orbital OR
You could grab a DP34 switch so you could add another dish 500 with pro head or a dish 300 with pro head for the 61.5
PM me, I have that switch you will need I can part with. It came extra with my superdish and it's just sitting in a box.
As far as the 148 bird, you wouldn't need it unless you have local channels on that particular bird you might want to see. You could check the lyngsat charts to confirm that. If you were to go with 148 as well, you'd be needing a DP+44 switch for that 4th orbital.
Adding the OTA isn't difficult. If your outdoor antenna is going to be nearby your collectors then 2 diplexors would be needed to separate satellite signal to the OTA signals. This is to save you from running a new coax strictly for the OTA antenna. Personally, I live only 11 miles from my HD transmitter so I use an indoor antenna just fine.
You know a Dishnetwork installer should be able to foresee all the things you'll need. If you are not up to doing the task yourself, you might have them do it for you.

Yes thanks...

Yes...I have 2 lnb's in a casing...I think it is a twin...
I also have a Dish Pro Quad in the closet I could use...

But don't think I have a DISH PRO Plus Twin...this is a new one to me...I will look into this hook up idea and go from there...thanks...

So I guess what you are explaining is that a DISH PRO PLUS TWIN allows the input of another DISH...and then you can feed that down the single line...and then on the 942 use the included separator to run into the two sat connections...??

Thanks.

And yet another simple option - good for up to two tuners.

Leave the existing DP Twin.
Hang a Dish for 61.5 wth any kind of DP LNB.
Combine them with a DP21. One for each tuner.

Caveat: If using two tuners, the 61.5 dish needs to be a Dual, Twin, or a Single with a DP Splitter (not a DPP separator).

Finally, NO, Voom is NOT on 148.

thank you birddoggy. now I feel better investing into my dpp44 switch and willing to part with my dp34.
I guess you could also consider what E* plans to do in the future in regards to new orbitals and how the new receiver will be able to switch to them. DPP is the way to go.
