Cleaing soild dish?

I was needing to clean a fiberclass bud and ku dish. I was wanting to make sure I didn't try to clean them with anything that would harm the surface. I was thinking of soap(dish washing liquid) and water. Any advice on the do's don'ts of cleaning a dish would be appericated.

I think you thinked ok, soap 'n water, and a scrub brush...

Do not paint over dish!!! Use a car wax, buff it, then remove all wax; and shine...

Oils can harm fiberous material, probably do not use gas or oil based cleaners. Sunlight harms plastics, so the wax and shine should help.

I used Bleach and Hot Water

I got a free 8 foot Channel Master that was very dirty and stained. I used Hot Water with some Bleach and it came out almost completely white.

The dish is fiberglass and it did not hurt the dish at all.

I didn't think of bleach. I may do that.

I used a scrub pad with a slid out handle to clean my 8 foot solid dish and cleaner in bucket of water. My dish had years of pecan tree sap built up.
Look like a new dish! I will paint the Button Hook and all metal with cans of black spray paint and replace all bolts and nut with new ones. I have been using my dish since 1986!

I painted my 10' fiberglass olive green so to make it less noticeable. Worked out great, no damage to the dish. Used regular house paint, can't remember the brand etc but likely latex. Fiberglass was listed as ok on the label.

Would not recommend waxing or any reflective finish as this will reflect the sun's rays into your feedhorn twice a year when the sun tracks the Clarke Belt. Worst case fry the electronics or at least stress them.

I don't see why... You don't think they are nuts when they wash their treasured car ...

You should speak gently to your dishes as you clean them, that should really freak them out!

For some of the smaller, (Ku dishes), the reflective surface is a paint on the outside. Be carefull not to remove the reflective surface. For most larger fiberglass dishes the reflective surface is a mesh inside the fiberglass.

I have painted a dish used camo paint and never saw any loss in signal. I just re-painted my Direct PC dish with Flat White and never saw any changes in signals from either satellite. I am getting ready to add some new lettering on it so that would be my next test on signal. I'm not saying painting a dish will not drop signals but I guess I am lucky as I have not seen any signal changes bad or good.
