--Hi, all. Can anyone point me in an online retailer of this receiver? It can be viewed here: Welcome To Chaparral Communications

--I totally forgot about asking Chaparral where I could purchase this receiver and I hate to bug them again. Thanks for your help

That's a new one on me too. Doesn't say anything about having blind scan though. Loaded with Mexico channels?? Haven't heard anything out of them since they quit c-band receivers here.

2100

--I actually asked them about blind scan and this is their reply:

---------------------------------------------------
This receiver does not have a blind scan.

But it will scan all frequencies that have been entered for any given satellite. Normally the receiver database has 90% of the frequencies for each satellite. And you can manually enter any new frequencies.
------------------------------------------------------------------

--So, I don't know if what they told me will make it easier to search for frequencies/TP or not, but if I can find one and the price is right, I might just buy it.

Any receiver will do what they mention, i.e., scan the pre-programmed transponders for channels and allow you to enter new transponders. Blind scan is special because it finds new or changed transponders, then enters the new data into your transponder list. Blind scan is a MUST if you are looking for wild feeds.

May I ask why you would focus on this particular receiver?
By all accounts, it seems unremarkable.
Any lowly hacker-bait, non-blind-scan receiver would do as much.
And they're cheap!
I've seen -new- Satpros 500s for $50 on eBay. (just to pick one I recognize)

Depending on the current status of a recent firmware upgrade, a Traxis 3500 might do.
Any decent blind-scan receiver such as a Pansat 3500 or Mercury II, would be a far better choice, for most of us.

--Hi, Anole. Nostalgia more than anything. Just remembering when they (Chaparral) sold BUD stuff back in the day, haha. Though, now I do not plan on getting this unit because of the lack of blind scan. I emailed Chaparral (once more) and asked for a place in the U.S. or even Canada to order it from, and they gave me one name. They wanted $150 for the receiver which is not horribly high in price, but without a blind scan feature, that's what broke the deal. Besides, I doubt the Chaparral units are made in the U.S. now anyway (at least I thought the old BUD stuff was U.S. made...I may be wrong). I've quickly learned that in the FTA hobby, you pretty much won't find any U.S. made stuff.

custom Anole FTA receiver !

For $150, you can have your pick of most mid-line blind-scan receivers.
Only the ones with disc drives cost more (for a careful shopper)
And I think I've seen the VisionSat IV200 for under $150, but you do have to add your own drive.

If you'll get the logo of your Chaparral receiver/company, and take it to any engraving shop... where they make up bowling trophies, and such...
They can make up a metal plate, engraved with pretty much anything.
Slap that on a Mercury II, and call it whatever you like. :D
