CECB = Coupon Eligible Converter Box
The official name of the digital tuners being offered for the Feb 2009 Digital TV cutover.
While waiting for Echostar to get the bugs out, I went looking for another good box.
Some serious research left me at the doorstep of the Channel Master unit.
It's got an S-video connector and a better guide than most.
I had already discounted the one other S-video equipped box, and all the units with a Now/Next guide, even the ones which were otherwise quite well reviewed.
In the coming week, I hope to write a review, post some pictures, and discuss this choice.
For now, the best price is at Fry's for $59.95, which is at least $10 below all the on-line etailers.
I got mine in the LA area, at the Fountain Valley store.
This is a weekend sale, which wasn't in effect yesterday (I was there and had 'em check their computers) and probably is good through Tuesday.
edit: I've seen forum posts of the same deal this weekend in Chicago and San Jose Fry's as well.
