After some very careful measurements of my dish diameter and depth I came up with the D=122.25 and d=19.5 (inches) which gave me fd=47.9 and f/D=0.39. All OK so far. Dish passes the string test with flying colours and looks to be in good shape.

Now to the issue: the struts for the lnbf holder provide some flexibility in mounting at the dish rim end so that you can position the scalar ring closer to or further from the dish. At first I had it mounted in the middle hole to see what position that would give, but it was an inch out. Moved the struts in one hole and now the scalar ring is nicely mounted at about 48 inches which is good.

Question arises: what are the other holes for that would allow me to position the scalar ring one or two inches further away from the dish? Are there some lnbf arrangements that would call for the scalar ring to be in a non-standard position?

Those holes are to accommodate different sized feedhorns. Chaparral, Seavey, ADL, etc. have different diameter scalars. Also, not all feeds have adjustable scalar rings.

Thanks Lynskyn, that's very interesting. My experience is very limited, I see I have a lot to learn.

It looks as though it is possible to get finer adjustment at the scalar ring by twisting it, which appears to move it closer in. However this might interfere with mounting the base of the lnb cover.
