Channel Info Question

I was wondering what does it mean when you change to a hd channel on the upper left hand corner it say's "normal" What does that mean? Sorry for the stupid question.

You can change the aspect ratio of the picture.

On the remote there is button that might say "format' or "*" If you hit you can cycle through several formats. The alternatives to normal are "Stretch" (I can't recommend it) Zoom (not too bas) and Partial Zoom which is perhaps the best way to fill an HD screen with an SD picture. You can also use grey bars on the side that will either replace the black bars you might prefer to black bars when showing an SD picture.

Normal means that you are watching in the original (normal) aspect. (seleceted with the "*" button on the remote.
choices are:
Normal
stretch
partial zoom
zoom
and
gray bar
