CE's for the Weekend of 5.31

I am trying to do this on my HR44, but I am apparently doing something wrong.

1. I reset receiver through menu.
2. I wait for lights to go off.
3. When lights come back on, I press 0,2,4,6,8, holding each for about a second.

I still get the 'You're Receiver Is Starting Up' & 'Hold On, Almost There', then a normal boot.

Any suggestions?

No... I must have misread the instructions. Will do that now.

Try that, not seeing it in the instructions anymore so may not be needed... you are going to menu>settings>reset receiver>dash to reset?

Yes, that is how I am resetting.

Did that, restarted... Still no dice.

Is my ambition to enter the code before anything at all is displayed on the screen? Or should I wait for the first Blue Screen with text?

I enter slowly but methodically as soon as I see a flicker of light on the receiver / dvr itself.

I know it is getting the code signal... I see the DirecTV light blinking on each number as I key it in. No matter what, I go to checking, then the receiver boots. I only want to do it on the 44, since that is a RC.

I will try again. Kind of embarrassed I can't get this going.

Guess I am going to give up for the night. It is getting the code.

I have tried beating the first blue startup screen, that didn't work. Tried waiting for the blue startup screen, that didn't work.

I guess I'll try again tomorrow night, after it's been running a solid 24 hours.

Switched remote to IR mode... Worked on the first try.

THe only D* receiver I can run the code on in RF mode is my H25. All of my other receivers have to be in IR mode(which can be a pain in the butt changing over from RF to IR,downloading & installing the CE,AND THEN switching remotes back to RF).
