Cell phone experts question

I have US Cellular (I know it is a small company but it has the best coverage in OK) However, when traveling there is not much of an option for 3g coverage. I have read about some changing their PRL to Verizon or Sprint while roaming and having very good internet. What does that mean and how are they doing it? Can it be done on an Android?

I heard in another forum that US Cellular now allows 3G roaming with the new PRL. Some phones require a reflash of the new ROM. What phone do you have?

We are trying out the Samsung Acclaim but changing to the HTC Desire when it comes out. I updated our roaming today and do get some 3G roaming, but it is still not broad coverage as Verizon which is shares towers with
