my wife has a job opportunity there. its been 3 years at her current job, one of her co workers is going there to head up a new cancer treatment center.

casa grande is about 1/2 between phoenix and tuscon. my dad and family are in phoenix.

I have been to this area in mid summer july in phoenix. It was drizzling and 105 degrees:(

I suggested a trip there this summer, my wife has asthma, I doubt she can take it.

Any ideas about all this would be appreciated.

I've been through there a lot. It's kind of like the Barstow of Arizona. Lot's of motels and truck stops. Hotter 'n He** in the Summer, sometimes gets snow in the Winter. If you want to get away from the big city, that's one way to do it. Low humidity, low cost of living. No big trees to block your satellite view.

snow in winter is a absolute negative... i asolutely hate snow,

wish she wanted to move to florida, now that i would support

Bob, how much snow do you think its possible for them to get in southern Arizona between Phoenix and Tucson? Its at 1400ft of elevation in the Sonoran Desert.

Yes, it will be hotter than hell. 105 would probably be a relatively cool day. But its a dry heat. :)

The sonoran desert is pretty awesome though.

I'd check with her doctor about the asthma issues. Sometimes moving to the desert helps people out; sometimes it makes it worse.

I would think it would be better out there if you have allergies etc.. because of the desert climate.

I never had allergies when I lived in the east; when I came to the desert, I got allergies. Some people come to the desert and do better.

If it was 105 in July, it was during a monsoon. Typically, the range is 110-115 with highs getting into the 120s. I lived in central CA for a while. I have a 9 yr. old with Down's Syndrome. He had asthma issues all the time in CA. We moved to Vegas and he cleared up. We've lived in Tucson for 2 years now and he hasn't had an attack. It all depends on what allergins flare up the asthma. The only way to know for sure is to try it out for a while. I drive past Casa Grande often. I don't think I'd want to live that far away from the bigger cities. Casa Grande is growing though and may be a fine place to live. Eventually, I-10 will be filled between Phoenix and CG anyway...

98 degrees and 12% humidity today in Phoenix.

I wouldn't be suprised to see Casa Grade swallowed up into metro Phoenix in the next 10 years. It's groing like crazy here. CG is one of the spots the home builders are starting to expand as the 'outskirts' of Phoenix.

The heat sucks, but you learn to hide from the worst of it.

I have been here since 96 and I too can attest to it being a much better climate than most other SE or S places. I have been in them all. The vast majority of people's health, especially joint and respiratory, do far better in the SW, excluding the LA basin. FL would be one of the last places I would go, the dampness and warm humidity would be a death knell. The economy is also one of the top 5 hottest in the land and the top (sometimes we dip to #2) growing metro area as well. We live in the Gilbert area of the East Valley.

theres a possiblity my wife might go try it out staying at my brothers home. over a hours dive each way to work. brother just got divorced, is very broke right collecting workmenns comp, hurt his back, had back surgery

I would emain back here fixing up our home it rent it out, or sell if she really likes it there.

we will definetely visit in mid summer, see how she like rendering out.:)

Holiday weekend is coming up so go then as opposed to the dead of summer, doing that will shove you directly into the furnace as opposed to going earlier when you can get a better idea of the weather and adjust to the change.

Asthma shouldnt be a problem for your wife unless she has specific allergies to plants in that region, the drier air should be better for her than what you have now in the north east. When I left Michigan and came to Georgia my asthma for the most part has left me, it only has shown up when we had tree pollen counts of almost 6k a month and half ago. My wife also has lost her chronic cough that she gets every winter and we both breath alot better, I know its Georgia but the air quality is alot better than what it is up in Michigan and your area and it should be even better outwest except for living in the fish bowl that is phoenix.

From people that I have talked to in the past it might be an idea to live outside of the valley that phoenix is in, I have heard that due to the irrigation that the valley retains more humidity than the surrounding area plus with all the lawns the grass pollen count is higher there than normal. Talk to others that live in the area to get a better idea, this info that I have is about 6 years old and alot has probably changed since then but I have also heard much of this on various tv shows aswell.
