"Cardless" 522's?

I'm about to buy a 522 off Ebay but the lister says the 522's he's selling are a new "cardless" type. I've now noticed a few other auctions stating the same thing. Is this a scam or did Dish change something?

522s is built in, still has a smart card number but you can't pull the card out.
